Are you expecting or delivered less than one year ago?

CVD offers compassionate labor, postpartum, and pregnancy loss support services, deeply rooted in principles of birth justice and anti-racism, aimed at reducing stigma and improving birth outcomes. These services are offered to individuals and families in the community who need support. In exchange for you (or your friend/family) helping to revitalize CVDs' new location in Little Village, a CVDoula can be assigned to you to support your Labor and Delivery or Postpartum needs at no cost to you. Complete the Volunteer Form, and help us make the space a great place for families! Learn more about what a CVDoula can offer on our website

What your Traditional Labor Support Doula will do for you:

  • They will assist you in a safe and supported birth.
  • They will meet with you and your birth partner(s) in advance to get acquainted and talk about your birth.
  • They will be available by phone for other questions/concerns before and after your birth.
  • They will meet you at home/hospital when you are in labor and go with you to the hospital stay throughout your labor and birth and for 1-2 hours afterward.
  • They will make suggestions for labor progress and encourage you to get information to make decisions.
  • They will visit you following the birth to see how things are going and to review your birth
  • After the birth, they will provide information for postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and baby care.
  • As your Doula, they are working for you, not your caregiver or hospital.
  • If, for any reason, they are unable to come or continue as your Doula, we will ensure that a backup Doula takes their place.

What Your Postpartum Support Doula Will Do for You:

- Provide emotional and practical support during the postpartum period to help you adjust to life with a new baby.

- Offer guidance on infant care, breastfeeding support, and maternal postpartum recovery.

- Be available for scheduled visits to your home to assist with postpartum needs and infant care.

- Offer resources and information to support your physical and emotional recovery.

- Be available by phone or text to answer questions and provide support during the postpartum period.

- Connect you with community resources for further support as needed.
